All Hail the Ultimate Scaffold Designer of #BeatMyScaffold 2021!

After a month chock full of inspirational and intricate scaffold design submissions, the #BeatMyScaffold Contest finally came to a close in November. Eleven contenders duked it out with their best scaffold designs for a shot at a brand new DJI FPV Combo – First-Person View Drone UAV Quadcopter with 4K Camera worth $1,200 as well as ultimate bragging rights (but mostly for the bragging rights). It was a real heavyweight bout between the Tyson Furys, the Deontay Wilders, and the Anthony Joshuas of the scaffolding world!

If you are new to the #BeatMyScaffold Contest, this is how it works. Our contestants are required to submit their most innovative, complex, and creative Avontus Designer® project to our contest page. After that, the contestants are encouraged to share their designs with their friends and family to earn votes. The top five entries with the most votes will move on to the final round, where they will be evaluated by a panel of judges based on the following criteria: the project’s complexity (40%), the effectiveness of presentation (40%), and the total votes from round 1 (20%).

Through the contest, we have been fortunate enough to share some truly wonderful displays of technical mastery from our Avontus customers to all our social followers. Some of these designs created with Avontus Designer literally made our jaws drop, as we are sure they also did to all those who voted. Unfortunately, we couldn’t give a prize to everyone who participated (how we wish we could!), and only one winner was lucky enough to bag the grand prize of a DJI FPV Combo – First-Person View Drone UAV Quadcopter with 4K Camera.

Drumroll please! And the winner is…

After five grueling weeks of stiff competition, the verdict is in from our judges. Our new Ultimate Scaffold Designer is Mr. Enrique Zabala from United Scaffolding! Congratulations on an absolutely smashing effort, Enrique! You have truly outdone yourself with your latest design. We can see you’ve been working your socials pretty hard as well. Those votes certainly didn’t materialize out of thin air!

Check out that fantastic design! We decided to check in with Enrique for a few words about his project, so that we can better understand how he did it.

  1. What project was it for?
It was for the F-F5-164 PO Product Sphere by the Huntsman Corporation in Beaumont, TX. We needed the scaffolds a blast & paint job.
  1. Were there any challenges?
The spherical shape of the equipment made the design super complex due to the additional amount of levels and adjustments required.
  1. How did Scaffold Designer help you with the project?
Where do I even start? First of all, features such as kickouts, tank structures, and 45 supports, etc. allowed me to accurately define the design and set the right configuration for the application. The ability to integrate images and PDF files within Designer was crucial for a more accurate layout. Being able to visualize every phase in 3D + VR + AR was also critical for the output.
  1. What was one valuable lesson you learned in this competition?
I learned that nothing beats hands-on experience in the field. I would not have been able to complete this design without the experience I gained over my career.

We want to thank all other contestants for their amazing designs and for making the #BeatMyScaffold Contest a rousing success! If you didn’t win this year, fret not! We will be adding even more exciting prizes in next year’s edition of the #BeatMyScaffold contest, so do stay tuned!
