A new LED scoreboard installation was being planned for the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery, Alabama, which would give the stadium a a more modern look. This digital scoreboard would be the first-ever large scoreboard for the home team, the Hornets basketball team of Alabama State University.
The Dunn–Oliver Acadome is a 7,400-seat multi-purpose sports facility. The arena has also been used for commencement ceremonies for the university and high schools around the area, as well as a main concert venue for some of the biggest names in entertainment.
Sunbelt Rentals Scaffold Services, a premier access and equipment rental company in the US, was called in to support installation of the new digital scoreboard. The scaffold had to provide access for the crew to anchor the steel structure into the building, and then place the LED panel in front.
Using the structure plans, Vincent Piater, Sales/Project Manager at Sunbelt Rentals, was able to lay out the scaffolding so that the scaffold legs did not interfere with the position of the steel structure and columns. Side brackets were to be used to install the anchors and then consequently removed after that phase of work.
Avontus Designer came in handy to help facilitate collaboration with the customer, who was out of state at the time. Piater said, “Using the Avontus software, I was able to communicate with the customer to confirm that the solution I was providing would meet their requirements, and that when they arrived on site everything would go according to plan.”
Thanks to the efficiencies of Avontus Software and the team’s expertise, everything went smoothly. Piater said this project was not only delivered successfully, but was also a memorable experience to be a part of this momentous event for the basketball team.
